CrumbWorks out of Japan developed a masterpiece of beautifully hand brazed steel in the form of "CHUNK", sweepy lines, a mix of modern and classic standards. But building frames one at a time in Japan is slow and expensive, so frames were landing at north of 3k AUD ex shipping.

They came up with an offshoot brand to offer the same frame design but produced in batches out of Taiwan rather than made singly in Japan and so now we have the "The Chunk", same frame design but at a more affordable price.

The difference from the Japanese version is the welding and tube materials.

The outer diameter of the top tube has been changed to 28.6mm.

Heat-treated tubing has been used to increase rigidity.

High strength TIG welding is used.

And, passed the "ISO City/Trekking standard test"

At Omafiets we are thrilled to offer "The Chunk", having started the shop importing upright step through dutch bikes many years ago, we have a real deep love for the combination of a step through frame and swept back bars. Some of our favorite bikes from those early shipments were the Koga-Miyata frames, a collaboration between the Dutch and Japanese that was the highpoint of frame design for decades. These Chunk Frames seem a very worth spiritual successor, but updates for modern times, with disc brakes, big tyre clearance but retaining a beautiful silhouette and simplicity.

"The Chunk" is a thing of beauty

The shape is retro, but somehow modern. Neo Rétro ATB.

But "The Chunk" is not a mountain bike.

It's not designed for action riding like downhill or dirt jumping.

"The Chunk" offers a lot of flexibility with its tire size. It offers a lot of fun.

Commuter bike with a carrier, basket, and fenders.

Touring style with camping gear packed in bags.

Neo-ATB style with 2.8" tires and a dropper.

Frame listing is for frame and fork inc thru axles, does not include headset or seatpost collar. We are happy to bundle and install things like headset and bottom bracket.

The raw clear coat has a "phosphate treatment" under the clear coat.

It should have a degree of rust-resistance, but significantly less than a traditionally painted or powdercoated frame, please wipe it if it gets wet in the rain.

Rust and patina will develop with time and thats an inherent part of a clearcoated frame.
Applying a water-repellent wax would also be a good idea.
Rust will occur if the clear coat gets scratched.
